There will be a day when Jesus Christ returns. It could be today, tomorrow, or some other day we do not know. Please read Matthew 24:29-31 as Jesus answers his disciples’ question on the sign of his coming and the close of the age. Jesus has already told us about the destruction of the temple and the abomination of desolation that will take place. He now turns his focus to what will happen after the tribulation or the distress of those days mentioned in verse 21 of this chapter. Jesus tells his disciples that in the sky something will take place that only the hand of God can perform. As you read verse 29 about the sun being darkened and the moon not shedding its’ light, we should remember that there are a couple of other times in the Bible where the LORD made it dark for three days in the land of Egypt while the land of Goshen still had light. The Lord also made the sun to stand still for twenty-four hours for Joshua as the Israelites were fighting a battle to conquer the promise land. Nothing is too difficult for God to perform. He spoke the world into existence from nothing. When these things with the sun, moon and stars along with the shaking of the powers of the heavens takes place then in heaven the sign of the Son of Man will appear. That’s when a lost and dying world will mourn uncontrollably because there is no more time for repentance and calling on Jesus Christ for salvation. We live in a country were people have the freedom to worship the way the want to or not. The sad problem is not all religions will get a person into heaven. God himself has revealed in the Holy Bible that faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is the only name given unto men by which we can be saved. (Acts 4:12) God himself sent his son Jesus to die on the cross to be the payment for our sin debt and that anyone who exercises faith in him can have forgiveness of sin and be born again. All who refuse to heed God call to be saved in Christ Jesus will not be allowed into heaven. This is why the world will mourn uncontrollably. Truth will set in. As the Son of Man (Jesus Christ) returns with power and great glory, he will have the trumpet sounded and he will send out his angels to gather the elect. Those who have heeded God’s call of salvation in Jesus Christ by grace through faith alone will be gathered. We must understand that Christ Jesus died on the cross for our sins, was buried and was raised again on the third day according to the Scriptures. Those who have believed this message have been saved, are being saved and will be saved. We never outgrow the gospel of Jesus Christ for our lives. We must daily apply Christ gospel to our lives.
