Discover your gifts

If we are going to build a life worth living we must follow the Lord’s plans that he has for us.  As we continuously seek him if we are going to know him and his ways.  As we get to know him he will reveal to each of us how he has gifted each one of us with the talent that we need to be able to follow the plans that he has for us.  The Father gifts each of us whether we are a believer in Jesus Christ or not.  Now for those of us who have responded to God’s call of salvation in Jesus Christ God blesses us not only with forgiveness of our sin but with the gift and ministry of the Holy Spirit as well. The Holy Spirit gives each believer spiritual gifts so that the body of Christ can reach a lost and dying world with the gospel message of Jesus Christ.  He even helps the believer to discover the gifts and talents that God has gifted them with so that each person can be productive and make a difference in this life. We can read about the different gifts of the Holy Spirit in 1 Corinthians 12 and in Romans 12.  What we learn as we grow in Christ Jesus is that the talent and gifts he blesses us with are perfect for us.  James is right when he writes, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” (James 1:17)

The key to getting an education that is useful for us in life is to learn the gifts and talents that the Lord has blessed you with.  Paul writes to Timothy what he needs to do with the gift that the Lord has given him.  “For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”  (1 Timothy 1:6-7). When each of us fans into flame the talent or gift that God has blessed us with, the Lord will use us.  Solomon was right when he wrote,  “A mans gifts make room for him and brings him before the great.” (Proverbs 18:16). In each situation as a person continues to grow in their skills, gift and or talents new opportunities will abound.  The  person who surrenders to be obedient to the Lord with their gifts, talents and skills will be used to help grow the kingdom of God.  At some point along the way in life the Lord may use you to teach others.  In the church setting we call this discipleship in the work place we call it apprenticeship or mentoring.  Jesus will help you to build a life worth living.
