God's perfect love

As I was reading a book the other day a quote from AW Tozer was given. The more I think about it, I want to ask you the same question that I have been asking myself. What comes into your mind when I first think about God? Your answer to this question determines everything. This was AW Tozer’s point. Our view of love comes from what we think about God. Please read 1 John 4:16-18  John writes, “God is love” in this letter to the church. Then he writes, “perfect love drives out fear.” What comes into your mind when you think about God now? God himself has to be perfect in every way if his love is perfect. In eternity past God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit existed in perfect relationship with each other long before the creation of heaven and earth and those created beings that fill both heaven and earth.  God created us to be in a relationship with him. He doesn’t need us, we need him. After Adam and Eve sinned against the LORD in the garden, the LORD demonstrated his love toward them. Yes they were in fear because they had broken the command that he had given them concerning the tree of life. They hid in fear. But God demonstrated his love for them in that he searched them out, confronted them concerning their rebellion and sin and then made a covering for their sin and gave them a promise that he would keep. God would not only keep his promise that he gave them, he would also keep his promise that he gave Noah and Abraham, king David and all who place their faith and trust in him. He does so by demonstrating his love toward us. The Lord is able to demonstrate his love toward us because of who he is. He is all powerful, but he never abuses it. He has all authority. As the creator of everything, he has the right to do with his creation as he pleases. Even though he has all authority, he never abuses it. He is always present and completely aware of what is going on in our lives, what we are doing, how we are going to respond. And yet, knowing everything that there is to know about us even before we were created he still chose to create us and give us this life that we live. More than that, John is able to write to us that God is love and that his love is perfect love that drives out fear. Here is how God demonstrated his love for us: For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son that whoever believes in him would not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16) Paul writes, that God demonstrated his love toward us in that while we were still sinners that Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8) To the Church in Corinth Paul wrote: He made the one who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. So if you have heard Jesus’ invitation to come and follow him, follow him so that the love of God can be made complete in your life.
