The Steadfast Love of God

As I sit and write this article, Thanksgiving, as a national holiday hasn’t happened yet.  As you read this article it happened yesterday.  Hopefully we all reflected on what it truly means for us to be able to give thanks to the One who made all of this possible.  Psalm 107 is the psalm that we will be looking at today. It’s about the redeemed of the Lord giving thanks to him for being delivered from the distresses and troubles that they found themselves in.  There are two reasons why we can give thanks to the Lord. He is good and his faithful love endures forever.  The Lord out of his goodness and faithful love heard the cry of the one in distress and delivered them from the one who oppresses them.  You may find yourself in a situation much like those that are given in this Psalm.  Your situation is different from the others around you yet at the same time the pressure is on and there is nothing you can do to change the outcome.  What do you do?  We can humble ourselves to Lord and admit that we need his intervention.  Four times in this psalm a person experiencing difficulties cries out to the Lord and he hears their prayer and answers them.  Each time he saved them from their distress.  In verses thirty three through forty two we learn about the power that God exercises in the circumstances around us to accomplish our deliverance.  Only God can heal you. Only God can deliver you from a prison cell to being the one in command.  Only God is able to still the storm and deliver you and those with you to a safe harbor.  Here is what Paul wrote to the Ephesians, “We have also received an inheritance in Him, predestined according to the purpose of the One who works out everything in agreement with the decision of His will, so that we who had already put our hope in the Messiah (Jesus Christ) might bring praise to His glory.”  That’s it.  The sooner we learn to humble ourselves under his mighty hand and agree to obey his will the sooner we have peace and experience being rescued from our situations the way he sees fit.  We have to remember that God’s in control of the outcome of our circumstances.  We have the Holy Spirit and the Lord Jesus Christ interceding to the Father on our behalf.  In the middle of your circumstances isn’t it comforting to know that God will make a way to see you through.  That God’s way in Christ Jesus is the only way any of us can be delivered.  We can thank God for his love and ask him for help.  “Let whoever is wise pay attention to these things and consider the Lord’s acts of faithful love.” (Psalm 107:43) I thank God for Jesus Christ.  I love the Lord who is changing me.  Ask him and he will change you to.
