Why do you follow Jesus?

Let me ask you a question, “If you follow Jesus, why?” I can honestly inform you that there was a time in my life where I followed Jesus to get from him. I am glad that the Lord saw fit to say no to a lot of my prayers.  Then over a period of time as she changed my heart following him took on a whole new meaning. Please read Mark 3:7-12. As you have read, many people were coming to Jesus because they have heard about all that he was doing. He was setting people free from unclean spirits, forgiving people of their sin, restoring people’s health and he was eating with tax collectors and sinners. Many people come to him today because of what he can do for them.  Sometimes it is with wrong motives, but still they come. Sometimes people will tell me the deal that they made with God. I struggle with this because Jesus doesn’t make deals with people or answer self serving prayers. The there are those that he has called to follow him.  This group is known as his disciples.  Even today his disciple learn from him. We learn to listen to him as the Holy Spirit guides us to know through truth through the reading and praying of God’s word as written in the Bible. We learn to submit to his authority over our lives, we learn to trust and obey him. This group of disciple would learn to adjust their plans to his command. This day they would have to have a boat ready for him because of the crowds of people that seek to touch him. We read that during the course of the day as many people would be healed, the unclean spirit’s could fall down and confess that Jesus is the “Son of God!” Jesus commanded them to be quiet and depart from those they are in. The people then as well as today are given a decision to make concerning Jesus Christ. If I seek after Jesus Christ because of what he can do for me then I will be disappointed in him if he doesn’t answer my prayers so that i can live the American dream. If I seek after Jesus. Christ because he has called me to followed him then that will be a different story altogether. As He calls and I follow him then, through faith and repentance in him he changes my heart, my desire to come in line with his plan. As our heart transformations we listen for his instructions so that we can follow them. As we follow him our heart is changed from what can you do for me to Lord, to, I want to know you and the power of your resurrection, I want to share in the fellowship of your suffering and to obey you the same way you obeyed God the Father. Will you come to Jesus today and give him your heart so that he can transform it to be like his?
